THE DEPARTMENT of Agriculture (DA) XI noted an increase in rice prices in the market, with a range of P56 for premium rice, P54 for well-milled rice, and P50 for regular rice.
During the AgriBiz forum on August 29, Agnes Cecilia Roble, DA-XI Agribusiness Industry Support Chief said the increase in rice prices is due to the increasing price of oil as well.
“Last month, naa pa lang ta sa P45-pesos, then hinay-hinay siya’g saka in one peso, and then eight pesos, and then eleven pesos,” Roble said.
Roble also said that production cost and logistics, such as hauling the commodities, also “naturally affect the prices.”
She also mentioned that there might be uncertainties when it comes to the changes in price trend, as typhoons and the Ukraine-Russia war affects the country and fuel prices.
“With the hope nga pahinay-hinay na nga mu-complement ang atoang local production, I hope na maghinay-hinay na pud siya og baba. We hope for that,” she said.
