THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) personnel went to the streets on Wednesday morning, Feb. 14, and handed out flowers and card reminders to motorists, passengers, and passersby in line with Valentine’s Day.
City director Colonel Alberto Lupaz led his personnel in handing out 575 pieces of roses to women passing along San Pedro Street. Most of those who received the surprise treat were female passengers of public utility vehicles.
The activity has become a yearly tradition of the DCPO.
Lupaz said that aside from giving flowers and reminders, the activity also aims to entertain commuters and passersby by handing out cards and flowers. The 14th of February has been declared by Pope Gelasius as St. Valentine’s Day though it was generally more religious than romantic.
Meanwhile, Feb. 14 is also Ash Wednesday, signaling the start of the Lenten season. The DCPO chief said they already have a security plan for Holy Week.
