A Patrolman died after he accidentally discharged his firearm in front of his live-in partner inside their rented home in Purok 6, Trading Boulevard, Barangay 37-D, Poblacion District at 12:01 a.m. yesterday.
Captain Maria Theresita Gaspan, the Davao City Police Office spokesperson, identified the fatality as Lloyd Tolentino Ligue, 25, single, a resident of #68 Interior, Saavedra Street, Barangay Toril Proper, Toril District.
A newbie, Ligue was assigned at the Mobile Patrol Group of the Davao City Police Office.
According to Daisy Tagalog Ale, the victim’s 26-year-old live-in partner who is five-month pregnant, she called Ligue in Monday evening because she was having a severe stomach ache.
At 11:50 p.m. Monday, the victim arrived at their boarding house just a few blocks away from the DCPO barracks.
The victim holstered his service firearm, a caliber 9mm Tanfoglio pistol bearing serial number AB23857, and placed it inside a shelf cabinet.
However, it suddenly went off and accidentally hit the right side portion of the victim’s head, resulting to serious injury.
The Central 911 ambulance arrived and immediately rushed the victim to the Davao Doctors Hospital for proper intervention.
According to the DCPO report, Ligue was transferred to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).
He was confined at the Intensive Care Unit and was placed in critical condition.
But at 10:17 a.m. yesterday, attending physician Angelie Fabrosa declared him dead.
The body of Ligue was brought to the Villa Funeraria in Toril.
