Police intercept smuggled cigarettes worth P2-M

Davao City police seized an estimated P2 million worth of smuggled cigarettes from two Chinese nationals and their driver during a checkpoint operation on Monday evening, August 12.

The suspects, identified as “Pan,” “Dehong,” and their driver “Allan,” were apprehended at a checkpoint on Purok 8 Bypass Road, Barangay Communal, Buhangin District.

The operation was conducted by the Buhangin Police Station, led by Officer-in-Charge Capt. Pio Torefranco, in collaboration with the Regional Special Operations Group 11 (RSOG11).

The confiscated cigarettes lacked the required graphic health warnings mandated by Republic Act 10643.

The suspects are now in custody and facing charges for violating the law.

Acting Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Director Col. Hansel Marantan reaffirmed the DCPO’s commitment to combating illegal activities and ensuring public safety.

He also encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
