Crime rate in Davao region has dropped 22 percent in the first quarter of the year compared to the same figure in 2017, the Police Regional Office XI revealed.
Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, spokesperson of PRO XI told TIMES May 21, Monday, that they recorded a total of 3,713 cases in the region from January to March 2018, a drop of 1,078 incidents from last year’s figure of 4,791.
Driz attributed the imposition of martial law for the reduction of the crime rate.
“The declaration of martial law has been of great help (in reducing the crime rate),” she added.
The PRO noted that more non-index crimes were reported than index crimes for the first quarter of the year. There were 2,722 non-index crimes and 991 index crimes reported in the said period.
Index crimes involve major offenses such as murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft and carnapping.
The non-index crimes, on the other hand, involve special laws and local ordinances.
The three-month index crime rate of 991 incidents is 25 percent less compared to the same period last year.
Non-index crimes were reduced by 21 percent as compared to last year’s figures.
Based on the PRO record, the crime clearance efficiency (CCE) and the crime solution efficiency (CSE) also both improved by four percent in the first three months of the year compared to last year’s record.
For the first quarter of the year, the crime clearance efficiency was recorded at 83 percent and the crime solution efficiency was at 74 percent.
Driz said the PRO has been active on its enhanced managing police operations focused on anti-criminality and terrorism.
She said operations like Oplan Kapkap, Oplan Bulabog, and Oplan Sita have helped in the reduction of crime.
In Oplan Bulabog, police officers are regularly visiting barangays to conduct background check of residents. This usually leads to the arrest of persons with warrant of arrest.
Driz also thanks the community, stakeholders and the Local Government Units for their cooperation.
Aside from the usual crime prevention, the PRO is also helping the military in its operation against terrorists.
