THE 11TH Brunei Darussalam–Indonesia–Malaysia–Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Friendship Games returns to the Philippines from Dec. 1 to Dec. 5 in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
Eight teams from ASEAN countries will compete in the upcoming sports event that will take place in Mindanao. Among the eight teams, five are from the Philippines (Mindanao A, Mindanao B, Puerto Princesa, BARMM).
“Ang Mindanao A, it composes of Davao City, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, and Agusan del Sur province,” Davao City Sports Development Division focal person for Mindanao A team Charlie Roscios said during Wednesday’s media forum.
Roscios shared that the preparations for the Mindanao A team are all set as they already distributed uniforms to the athletes and met with the coaches for house rules. The athletes will depart for the venue on Nov 29.
The 11th BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games will feature eight different games such as aquatics, archery, athletics, badminton, e-sports, karate-do, pencak silat, and sepak takraw.
He hopes that the future BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games will be held in Davao City. However, he expects Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei to host the next events.
The previous BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games launched in Brunei in 2018. The schedule for the next event was in 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games is held every two years.
