Philippine Army strengthens ties with South Korean, ASEAN armies

PHILIPPINE Army (CGPA) Commanding General Roy M. Galido led the inaugural Korea-ASEAN Armies Chiefs Conference (KACC) in Daejeon, South Korea on Oct. 3, 2024, to strengthen ties between the two countries and the ASEAN.

Galido met with South Korean Army Chief of Staff Gen. Park An-su during the KACC, which was also attended by Gen. Muhammad Hafizuddeain bin Jantan, the Malaysian Chief of Army; Gen. Mao Sophan, the Royal Cambodian Army Chief; and Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Van Nghia, deputy commander in chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army.

The Philippine Army and the South Korean Army have sustained strong relations.

The two armies have conducted high-level dialogues in bilateral and multilateral settings such as the KACC and the Land Forces Summit in Japan. The Philippine Army will host the 2nd Philippine Army-Republic of Korea Army (ROKA) Staff Talks next year.

The KACC multilateral security talks aim to support peace in the Korean Peninsula and strengthen multilevel security cooperation for a combined response to threats in the region.

The first part of the meeting saw South Korean and ASEAN army leaders assess the current regional security landscape. The second part of the meeting focused on discussions about strategic networks among the participating ground forces.
