PhilHealth XI and NCSC to promote senior citizens’ healthcare

THE PHILIPPINE Health Insurance Corporation XI partnered with the National Commission of Senior Citizens to implement the Philippine Action Plan of Action for Senior Citizens 2023-2028 in Davao Region through the Konsultasyong Sulit Tama (Konsulta) program.

During the Kapehan sa Dabaw on July 1, PhilHealth and NCSC signed a memorandum of agreement to strengthen the implementation of RA 11223 Universal Health Care Act.

NCSC chief program officer Cynthia Linda P. Gallenero said that PhilHealth’s Konsulta package helps promote age-friendly cities and easy access to health and well-being for senior citizens. 

“We would like to strengthen primary health care and this is very timely and very appropriate for all of our senior citizens, especially that our senior citizen population is growing,” Gallnero said.

She also said DCSC has been working with national government agencies in establishing age-friendly cities and communities and prioritizing the elderly through programs.

The Konsulta package, mandated by the Universal Health Care Law, aims to protect every Filipino citizens’ health against chronic illnesses, prevent complications via early detection, and provide affordable drugs and medicines.

In NCSC’s national database, there are more than five million online registered senior citizens with 205,324 registered in Region XI while PhilHealth has 539,352 registered senior citizen members in the region. 

Filbert Ryan Sollesta, PhilHealth XI chief of field operations division, encouraged the elderly and everyone to register and approach accredited Konsulta providers to avail of the benefits of the package. 

“We would like them [senior citizens] to be aware na pwede na gyud sila mu anha sa atoang mga Konsulta provider so that makita nila they can also be given early advise and what to do sa ilahang mga impending pud nga sakit basi sa ilahang lifestyle,” Sollesta said.                                                             

Philippine Action Plan of Action for Senior Citizens 2023-2028, originally launched last October 2023, aims to create an inclusive and age-friendly society, and protect the rights and privileges of the senior citizens in the country.

Republic Act No. 11223 signed by former President Rodrigo Duterte and approved on Feb. 20, 2019, declared policies to protect and promote the right to health of all Filipinos and instill health consciousness among them.
