Peace monument unveiled in DdeOro

THE International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) unveiled Tuesday a peace monument at the Ayuste Highland Mountain Resort, Mount Patong, Maragusan, Davao de Oro.

Hyun Sook Yoon, IWPG chairperson, in her message said: “Today is such a historic day because this is history’s first time that an IWPG peace monument is unveiled. Davao de Oro is a historic place that will be forever left in history. I would like to thank all the citizens that are here today, and I believe that this time will be a time of hope and a time of peace.”

“The 10 articles and 38 clauses of Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War have the spirit of peace that the IWPG has been inspired by and have had Filipino women participate in peace activities, and that is why we have erected the IWPG peace monument,” Hyun Sook Yoon added as the province was recently-declared as insurgency free.

In response, Brig. Gen. Allan Hambala, representing Maj. Gen. Nolasco Mempin, 10th Infantry Division commander, said: “Your advocacy in sharing the peace, love, happiness, and equality by extending assistance and providing alternative livelihood opportunities into isolated areas had a great impact in attaining the insurgency free for Davao de Oro. Your invaluable actions and untiring efforts showed that women are equally capable of earning and excelling in leadership roles.”

Also present during the event was Sholai Lim, IWPG – Philippines publicity ambassador.

The group is a non-profit organization under the South Korea Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and is registered in the United Nations Department of Global Communications and has special consultative status in the UN Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC).

It has 100 branches and 230 cooperative organizations in 52 countries.
