P4.2-M in damage

A 64-YEAR-OLD luckily escaped with some injuries when flames engulfed a total of nine houses along Tapere Street, Lizada Village, Barangay Vicente Hizon Sr., around 5:43 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

According to Senior Inspector Frances Mae Sendrijas, spokesperson for the Bureau of Fire and Protection XI, the fire quickly spread to adjacent houses. She also estimated the total property damage to reach P4.2 million.

Sendrijas said the 64-year-old man suffered second-degree burns to his face and left forearm.

Firefighters and volunteers rushed to the scene, brought the fire under control at 6:12 a.m., and declared a fire-out by 7:31 a.m.

Accordingly, the fire affected 15 families, with three houses damaged and six partially damaged.

Recently, Sendrijas said Davao City recorded 716 fire incidents from January to October 2024, reflecting a 28.25% rise compared to the 557 incidents for the same period in 2023.

The leading cause of these fires was electrical ignition, primarily due to arcing and loose connections. Open flames and rubbish fires were also significant contributors.
