MORE THAN P32 million worth of smuggled cigarettes were seized at the checkpoint in Purok 2, Barangay Lacson, Calinan District around 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 27.
Captain Hazel Tuazon, the spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office, identified the driver as alias Louie, 49, and his helper as alias John, 27, both residents of Tokoran town in Zamboanga del Sur.
According to the report, personnel of Calinan Police Station (PS10) and the Task Force Davao flagged the suspects while passing through the checkpoint on board a Mitsubishi truck with plate number TPG607.
The truck reportedly contained 102 cigarette boxes (30 boxes of New Aris, 33 boxes of Greenhill, 350 reams equivalent to 7 boxes, and 32 boxes of Bros) estimated to be worth P32.13 million.
The suspects are in police custody while the seized cigarettes were turned over to the Bureau of Internal Revenue Office XI.
