The P1,500 annual cash assistance to senior citizens in the city is nearing realization.
Yesterday, the City Council approved on second reading the proposed ordinance.
City Budget Officer Ermelinda Furog-Gallego said Mayor Sara Duterte already committed to provide P1,500 annual cash assistance to the senior citizens.
Once approved, senior citizens in the city must apply.
Applicants must be 65 years old or above at the time of application, the beneficiaries must be a holder of an identification card issued by the Office of Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA) in the city, they must be a registered and an active voter of the city evidenced by the Commission on Election’s certified voter list.
They must be active in social groups and senior citizens organizations in the city run by OSCA.
Councilor Diosdado Mahipus Jr. inquired if the city has a new source of fund for the grant as the city may spend million of pesos.
Data from the OSCA reveals that there are around 89,000 registered senior citizens in the city. Philhealth has recorded a data of more than 183,000 senior citizens.
Gallego, in response, said there is no new source of income but assured the efficiency of the cash grant as the city’s collection increases every year so the funds may be sourced from the said collection.
