The Davao Regional Office recorded a drop in index crimes from January to February this year compared to the same period in 2018.
Based on the record of the PRO XI, index crimes (crime against persons and property) decreased to 229 incidents this year compared to 324 in 2018.
Chief Insp. Jason Baria, the police regional spokesperson, they conduct weekly assessments on crime hot spots in the region. He said they rotate their patrols to address spikes in crime incidents and the rotation is based on hard data.
“So as what we have seen the preventive measures on patrol and beat patrols are very effective because of this analysis of the data,” he added.
However, the non-index crimes (special laws and police operations) continue to rise because of the drug war of President Duterte, as well as his marching order to clamp down on gambling and the directive of the Camp Crame to chase down fugitives.
For non-index crimes, they apprehended 1,428 from January to February this year compared to the 1,097 in the same period last year.
Baria credited the Oplan Dabaw Kalinaw in the apprehending wanted persons and fugitives. The campaign called for community-level screening and background checking.
“So even though cases like estafa, malicious mischief, we have arrested them because of the Oplan Dabaw Kalinaw,” he added.
For the crime volume, the PRO XI recorded a decrease from the 2,501 in January to February 2018 to just 2,321 this year.
Meanwhile, the crime volume in the city decreased by four percent compared to the previous week.
Sr. Insp. Maria Theresita Gaspan, spokesperson of Davao City Police Office, said they have recorded 66 incidents while physical injury increased from four to six cases this week and one motorcycle carjacking.
“That’s the only case that has increased in our crime against person and property (rape, physical injury, murder, theft, robbery and carnapping),” Gaspan said.
“The focused crime has decreased to 32 percent compared to last week with 22 incidents down to 15 this week,” she added.
Meanwhile, non-index crimes increased nine percent from 47 to 51 this week. ”This is so because of our apprehension on the drug cases and road clearing operations,” she added.
