Nieva might have known her killers: police

THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) is exploring the possibility that the former government employee knew the perpetrators who murdered her inside her house in Deca Homes Talomo on Sept. 29.

Investigators survey the crime scene to paint a clearer picture of what happened in the murder of Lilian Nieva.

For now, the police already have a person of interest in the crime.

Speaking at the AFP-PNP press briefing held at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Tuazon, said the members of Oplan Siyasat reviewed all the evidence and witnesses’ testimonies regarding the murder of Lilian Nieva, 57.

“Based on the investigation, there is no possible force of entry so possibility that the [suspect] is an acquaintance of the victim. It’s either family, friends, or other close [friends],” she said.

“Possibly the suspect was already inside the house prior to the incident,” she added.

However, she said they are looking at all angles to get a clear picture of what happened.

In an interview on Tuesday, DCPO director Col Alberto Lupaz said they already have persons of interest in the killing. However, Lupaz did not disclose further information as the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, former Philippine Sports Commission chairman William Ramirez expressed confidence on the ability of the authorities to give the family justice for the murder of Nieva, who was found murdered with 44 stab wounds inside her home on Sept. 29.
