New police chief

BRIGADIER General Leon Victor Rosete formally assumed office as the new regional director of the Police Regional Office (PRO) XI, replacing Brig Gen. Nicolas Torre III who is now the head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos and PNP Director General Romel Francisco Marbil also attended the turnover ceremony at Camp Sgt. Quintin M. Merecido in Buhangin District, on Sept. 27.

In his message during the ceremony, Torre thanked Marbil and President Bongbong Marcos Jr. for the “trust and confidence” they gave him during his tenure as the region’s top cop.

According to Torre, the police force remained committed to fulfilling their duty to serve the people despite the challenges.

He said, “102 days ago I was given the privilege to be the regional director of Region XI although my position is not a very easy fit I have grown to embrace this responsibility and challenges that came my way.”

“During this time under army leadership PRO XI has brought to focus the value of time, truthful, and targeted communication during crisis, and the saying that nothing good ever comes easy could not be truer,” he added.

Torre only assumed command as the PRO XI on June 16, 2024.

Meanwhile, Rosete used to be the director of the Southern Police District before he was reassigned as Torre’s replacement. He was a member of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Class of 1995 and the former director of the PNP Retirement and Benefits Administration Service and PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group.
