THE BUREAU of Jail and Management Penology (BJMP) XI found 12 sachets of shabu from a newly committed inmate at the Davao City Jail male dormitory on Oct. 8.
Meanwhile, four inmates tested positive in the test conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)XI in relation to the incident.
This was after male dormitory warden Supt. Peter Bongngat Jr. received a report that a newly committed person snuck shabu in through ingestion.
According to Jail Inspector Edo Lobenia, the BJMP XI spokesperson, the personnel then conducted an immediate intensified and surprise cell greyhound operation.
After a thorough search, Lobenia said 12 sachets containing more or less 0.7 grams of suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia were discovered. The said substance had an estimated street value of ₱10,000.
Immediately, around 44 PDLs underwent testing, and four failed the drug test.
In a statement, the BJMP said it will investigate the incident further, and appropriate charges will be filed against the PDL involved.
“We will continue to intensify our security measures in the area to prevent contraband from entering the jail facility,” the statement added.
