NEARLY 300 personnel from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) will be deployed to ensure public safety and order during the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration on Jan. 29, 2025.

Police Captain Hazel Tuazon, the DCPO spokesperson, said 288 officers will be responsible for maintaining peace and order and responding to any incidents that may arise during the festivities.

Tuazon also reminded the public that the city is strictly enforcing the firecracker ban ordinance.

The city government encourages the public to participate in the Chinese New Year celebration, which begins on Jan. 28 at 5 p.m. at Rizal Park.

Decorations are already in place at the park in preparation for the Year of the Snake.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) issued a reminder regarding proper wage rates for workers on Jan. 29, which is a special non-working holiday under Proclamation No. 727.

Workers who report for duty on that day are entitled to an additional 30% of their daily wage. However, companies may still implement a “no work, no pay” policy.
