‘Taken seriously’

  • Police to go after vlogger after cop tests positive for shabu

AUTHORITIES confirmed that a cop tested positive for shabu during a random screening as part of the internal cleansing program. However, it did not take kindly to a vlogger’s actions of implicating the regional police spokesperson as guilty of the offense.

According to the Police Regional Office XI (PRO), the vlogger allegedly posted a news card containing the photo of Major Catherine dela Rey.

Even though the vlogger did not mention the spokesperson’s name, adding her picture seemingly implied her guilt.

“PRO11 would like to clarify that while one officer did test positive, a false report has been spread online using the photo and name of PRO11 spokesperson Major Catherine Dela Rey, wrongly implicating her as the one who tested positive for illegal drugs,” according to the statement.

PRO XI said spreading wrong information that damages a person’s reputation is illegal.

“The spread of this fake information is being taken seriously and may lead to legal action,” added PRO XI.

Positive for drugs

Last week, dela Rey announced that a police officer in New Bataan, Davao de Oro, tested positive for illegal drugs. She did not name the officer but confirmed that an administrative case is being prepared against the erring cop.

She said the PNP continues to cleanse its ranks of officers who use illicit drugs. “That is why the office continues to conduct random drug tests to make sure that its personnel are fit to serve the public with honesty and integrity,” she explained.

The erring officer “will go through the proper process and will be dealt with fairly by the authorized disciplinary board.”
