- ‘Bishop’ faces rap for allegedly uploading false report on social media
THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) will file at least two charges against a pastor for allegedly spreading misinformation on social media that law enforcers ignored his complaint.
Also, the DCPO also found out that suspect Mark Atiolla Demerin introduced himself as a police inspector.
In an interview on Monday afternoon, city police spokesperson Capt. Hazel Tuazon told TIMES that they will file a case against the suspect for violating RA 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, and for usurpation of authority under Article 177 of the Revised Penal Code.
The suspect posted on Facebook where he ranted about his harrowing experience at a hotel in Davao City and expressed his disappointment with the response of the San Pedro Police Station. In his post, he claimed to have been assaulted by three perpetrators with zero provocation.
In response, the DCPO immediately investigated the incident, especially if police personnel ignored the assault complaint as the suspect alleged. However, the CCTV footage reportedly belied Demerin’s version of events as no such assault occurred.
In a statement, the DCPO claimed that they processed the complaint’s report and even investigated the incident despite Demerin’s insistence that he wouldn’t file charges.
“We would also like to clarify that the version of the blotter posted by the complainant is not the official extract,” the statement said. “Nevertheless, our patrollers were dispatched to the location of the incident, even though the complainant opted not to pursue legal action,” it said.
