MinDA, DOTr to implement infra projects for Mindanao development

THE MINDANAO Development Authority (MinDA) collaborated with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to carry out flagship DOTr infrastructure projects in Mindanao during the 1st Mindanao Infrastructure Summit.

Nineteen out of the 69 DOTr infrastructure flagship projects will be implemented in Mindanao with a budget of P748 billion. The projects include the new airports for Zamboanga, Siargao, Bukidnon, and Cagayan de Oro BRT project, public transport modernization programs, and other DOTr projects.

MinDA also partnered with the Bangsamoro Planning and Development Authority (BPDA) and supported DOTr in BARMM’s development in terms of land and air transportation.

MinDA chairperson Secretary Leo Tereso Magno highlighted the importance of the projects in developing the regions in Mindanao in its ability to transport goods and people.

“All of these years, we have been longing for the improvement of the facilities especially in the transport sector,” Magno said in a press conference.

He added that MinDA will also sign the memorandum of cooperation with the DOTr for the benefit of the projects in Mindanao.

According to DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista, DOTr still needs to update the feasibility study of the Mindanao Railway project’s Phase 1 which will go from Digos, to Davao, and to Tagum.

The 1st Mindanao Infrastructure Summit, launched on Oct. 10 to 11, served as a platform to present major flagship projects of government agencies and discuss key infrastructures to drive the development and economic growth of Mindanao.

MinDA partnered with the Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Information and Communications Technology, Department of Transportation, and BARMM for the summit.
