A 50-YEAR-OLD mechanic was gunned down while driving his vehicle in Purok 1, Barayco, Barangay 5-A, around 8:35 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20.
Police identified the victim as Marli Cadel Masocol, a native of Santa Maria, Davao Occidental, who was pronounced dead at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) around 10 p.m. for a gunshot wound to the head.
According to a witness, a loud bang was heard before Masocol was found slumped in his silver Mitsubishi Strada pick-up truck parked in front of a stall.
Bystanders reported seeing a man wearing a red sweatshirt and denim shorts fleeing the scene on foot.
Police, including a SWAT team, conducted a hot pursuit operation but have yet to apprehend the suspect.
The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered a .45 caliber cartridge case and a black Nokia cellphone at the scene. Masocol’s vehicle was also taken for further investigation.
