Mayor Sara Duterte aims to apply what she learned from the recent seminar she attended in the United States.
During her eight-day visit in the States, the mayor said she learned a lot of things that can be applied to the city.
Among them is about counter-terrorism and violent extremism.
She said that some of the discussions in the seminar include security.
“They also have a culture of security like here, it is just not called as the culture of security, but it has the same concept as involving the public to be an additional eye of the authorities,” she said.
Duterte was among the Philippine local leaders invited at the US-sponsored “Strong Cities, Strong Partnerships: A Comprehensive Approach to Preventing Terrorism in Southeast Asia – A Project for the Philippines.” It tackles different ways on how to prevent terrorism in the country.
She also looks forward to apply the Standard Operations Manual, which will serve as guidebook in holding any events, especially big ones, in the city.
“What we apply here in Davao is that every event, we make different plans, but in the US they already have a manual. So whenever there is a change of leadership at the police level, they already have a manual to follow,” she said.
She said that the said manual is being used in holding the Rose Bowl Parade in California, an annual parade to mark the start of the Rose Bowl Game held mostly in Colorado Boulevard, Pasadena on New Year’s Day. The event usually draws some 500,000 to one million spectators.
The mayor also committed to work on its counter-terrorism measures and improve the security means in the city for the safety and security of Davaoeños.
