MAYOR Sebastian “Baste” Duterte arrived in The Hague, Netherlands, on Saturday morning and immediately joined hundreds of Filipinos gathered to express support for his father, former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Baste Duterte, who is set to assume his new role as vice mayor, confirmed his arrival to the Filipino community, stating that he came directly to the event without yet visiting his father.
The gathering, dubbed “ICC, Bring PRRD Home,” saw enthusiastic supporters rallying for the former president.
In his recent social media post, Mayor Duterte shared a lighthearted anecdote that drew laughter from the attendees.
He recounted a recent conversation with his mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, who had instructed him to bring a t-shirt and pants “without buttons” for his father. In a humorous retort that circulated widely among those present, Baste jokingly responded, “Yes ma, I might not even wear briefs myself so [I can be comfortable],” a quip that highlighted his candid style.
The event, held this past Saturday, May 31, also saw the presence of several prominent Philippine political figures.
Among those attending were senators Imee Marcos and Robin Padilla, senator-elect Rodante Marcoleta, Atty. Harry Roque, Dr. Richard Mata, and Atty. Vic Rodriguez.
Notably, Vice President Sara Duterte, who was celebrating her birthday on the same day, was also present at the gathering, joining her brother and other officials in showing solidarity with their father amidst the ongoing developments concerning the International Criminal Court.
