Mayor Duterte to new police chief: protect the people of Davao

ACTING Davao City Police chief Colonel Hansel Marantan reported a productive meeting with Mayor Sebastian Duterte during his courtesy call with the local chief executive last week.

“My meeting with Mayor Duterte was very fruitful,” he said.

“The mayor’s message was clear: protect the people of Davao. This was my first time meeting him, and it was very productive,” he added.

On Thursday afternoon, July 25, Col Marantan, formally introduced himself to Mayor Sebastian Duterte during a courtesy call at Matina Enclaves.

Previously, Duterte expressed confusion over the rapid leadership changes within the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), questioning why he wasn’t involved in the selection process as is customary for appointing a city director.

This concern was particularly heightened by Marantan’s appointment, as the mayor was unfamiliar with his background.

In a July 16 address to lawmakers, Marantan acknowledged the situation and appealed for an opportunity to prove his worth to the city.

“I think the challenge for me now is to prove more to merit your acceptance in Davao City,” he stated, recognizing the city’s reputation for peacefulness.
