EIGHT Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) in Mati City received Starlink, a satellite-based internet connection, given by the local government on Dec. 7.
In a statement, Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat said, “The administration prioritizes education and accessibility, especially to those residing in remote areas.”
Among the schools given were the Licop Integrated School, Cangusan Elementary School, Bugacan Elementary School, Culian Integrated School, Catmonan Elementary School, Sanghay National High School, Lanca Integrated School, and Cabuaya Integrated School.
The Starlink kit comes with a Starlink dish, base, router, 50ft Starlink cable, and a 6ft AC cable. The internet connection payment of P2,700 will be monthly shouldered by the Department of Education.
According to Rabat, they are also expecting two more Starlink units to be given to other GIDA schools in the upcoming weeks.
The Mati City mayor also hoped that students from those areas would now experience stable connectivity through the Starlink units.
