THE LAND Transportation Office XI (LTO) continues to carry out its road safety awareness campaign due to the alarming vehicle crashes in the region.

In an interview at the Kapihan sa PIA in SM City, Yuri Lim, LTO XI Law and Enforcement Section head, cited a report by the Davao Regional Medical Center in Tagum City, ranking road incidents as the top 12 cases they treat at the hospital.

“Previously from 12, 14 yun [before]. So, ibig sabihin, increasing siya as factor sa mga incidents,” he said on May 19

He also said the incidents are mostly caused by human error, such as the driver’s lack of discipline, like what happens when motorcycle riders perform the Superman stunt while racing against others.

In Davao Region, motorcycle accidents are the most prevalent, followed by tricycles in the provinces. “Usually, the result of these accidents sa motorcycles are fatalities,” he said.

Lim added that the agency will conduct outreach programs and caravans at barangays, as well as other projects for students to teach them about road safety. This also includes the advocacy for proper procedure in applying for a driver’s license.

Last Dec 2024, LTO XI intensified the “Operation Plan (OPLAN) Byaheng Ayos” to ensure road safety and pedestrian convenience during the holiday season.
