Kaufman: Duterte was completely denied all his rights

NICHOLAS Kaufman, lead counsel for former president Rodrigo Duterte at the International Criminal Court (ICC), said that his client was “completely denied all his rights” during his arrest on March 11, 2025.

At the same time, he also expressed confidence that Duterte would be acquitted as he faced charges of crimes against humanity.

“I’m very confident of the strongest defense possible and I’m very confident that he will be acquitted, indeed, even at the earliest stage possible,” he told reporters in The Hague on Tuesday.

Kaufman will stand as the lead counsel for Former President Rodrigo Duterte in the crimes against humanity case at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

According to the roll of counsel registered with the ICC, Kaufman is a British and Israeli national.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has set the confirmation of charges hearing for former President Rodrigo Duterte on Sept. 23, 2025.
