THE COAST Guard District Southeastern Mindanao has canceled all trips going to Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) as of 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 18.
Meanwhile, the local government also declared the suspension of classes in all levels of public and private schools and the suspension of work in government offices due to Tropical Storm “Kabayan.”
Commander Angel Tobias, acting Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao public affairs officer, said that as early as Sunday, they already activated a deployable response group to critical areas on the path of Tropical Depression “Kabayan.”
Also, the Coast Guard Davao Oriental enforced a “no sail” as a safety precaution.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) Number 1 by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pag-asa) at 4 a.m. on Dec. 17 due to Tropical Depression Kabayan which affected the areas of Davao Oriental, particularly Municipality of Cateel, Boston, and Baganga, Davao Oriental.
The Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental immediately directed all its sub-stations to suspend the voyages of vessels/watercraft of any type or tonnage plying the routes within its maritime jurisdiction through the issuance of a Notice to Mariners (CGSDavOr-2023-019) in accordance with NHQ-PCG/CG8 Memorandum Circular Number 02-23 dated 23 March 2023 otherwise known as “Revised Guidelines on Movement of Vessels.
Moreover, Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental activated its Deployable Response Groups (DRG) within the AOR to ensure maximum operational readiness of personnel, equipment, and assets for the possible occurrence of emergencies, calamities, eventualities, or disaster response.
In Davao Occidental, the Coast Guard station also canceled sea trips in all vessels bound from Sarangani, Davao Occidental to Balangonan, Jose Abad Santos, and General Santos and vice versa as of 10 a.m. on Monday.
Moreover, the local government here also declared the suspension of classes in all levels of public and private schools and the suspension of work in government offices in the city.
The private offices and establishments are given the discretion to suspend work or adopt Work from Home (WFH) arrangements. Still, they are encouraged to do so for the safety and convenience of their employees.
Other local government in the region, the Davao de Oro, Davao Oriental, and some parts of Davao del Norte also suspends classes in all levels of public and private schools.
