Packwell Inc., a Japanese company that manufactures quality paper packaging containers, last week signed an agreement with the Floirendo-owned Anflo Industrial Estate to locate in the industrial zone in Panabo City, Davao del Norte, a press statement from the local company yesterday bared.
Signed in Tokyo, Japan last week, the agreement allows the Japanese company to build a new production facility in a 1.6-hectare within the agro-industrial hub operated by Damosa Land Inc. (DLI), the property arm of the Floirendo group.
Signing the agreement were Masahito Hoshino, chair of Packwell Inc., and Ricardo F. Lagdameo, DLI first vice president.
The foreign company, the 11th locator in the economic zone, will “take advantage of of AIE’s support facilities for manufacturing, warehousing, processing and exporting. Complete with world-class water and power systems, ample space, wide roads and logistical networks,” the press statement said.
The foreign company will also operate a facility that sits on an area just about 300 meters from the Davao International Container Terminal, also run by the Floirendo group, and can serve both the areas within the Davao Region.
The Japanese company will start building its facility this year, although the press statement did not include the timeline for its operations. It is the first Japanese company to have located in the industrial zones as other companies, aside from the local ones, came from the Netherlands, China, and US.
“This (Japanese facility) is expected to add job opportunities as well as to peripheral business opportunities in Panabo City and neighboring cities, constituting a big win for Davao del Norte and Mindanao,” Anflo added.
Among the products of the company, founded in 1957, include lidded boxes, cardboard-lined jackets, paper-lined jackets, and other quality packaging material for luxury pieces and collectors’ items.
The soon-to-operate facility of Packwell will be its five with three of them in Japan and another in China.
The industrial zone is a 63-hectare industrial hub accredited by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority that focuses on agro-industrial processing and light manufacturing.
