THE INSTITUTE of Davao Studies of HCDC will officially launch the “Streets of Davao City” book by Antonio V. Figueroa at the Café Bro, Brothers of the Sacred Heart in Juna Subdivision, Matina on April 7.
During the PEP Talks at SM Lanang on Mar 26, Rhys Lloyd Lacia of the Institute of Davao Studies HCDC announced the upcoming book will be available for next month to feature the origins of Davao City’s major streets and the history of Davao City.
Lacia highlighted that the book talks about how the streets were made, promoting the importance of local history, and learning more about Davao City.
“It’s about learning what Davao is and it’s also through the street names in which they will be able to get to know the city more. And that this city is a community of diverse peoples,” he said.
He also added that the target audience for the book is the younger generations and people who are not aware of Davao City’s history to preserve the city’s history.
“Because we cannot teach history in just a blink of an eye. It’s a way of developing that historical consciousness among our people, in the people of Davao. So in that sense. that’s a very crucial part in which we could inculcate that kind of learning to our younger Davaoeños,” he said.
The book was unveiled during the “Magsturya Ta! Davao Unbound: The Remarkable Tale of the First City of Southern Mindanao” last Mar 9 at HCDC, an academic forum in celebration of the 87th Araw ng Dabaw 2024 to promote Davao City’s history over the years.
Streets of Davao City will cost P350 and can be availed via their official Facebook page and email. Copies of the book will also be available at the Institute of Davao Studies office in HCDC.
