A WAVE of grief washed over Purok 3, Sitio Quarry, Mundo Hill, Barangay Marilog, when a landslide claimed the life of a five-month-old infant on Thursday morning.

At approximately 10:24 a.m., the tranquility of the remote hillside community was shattered when a concerned resident’s call reached Police Station 12–Marilog.

The report detailed a devastating landslide in their purok, prompting an immediate response from local authorities.

A team led by duty investigator Senior Master Sergeant (PSMS) Dexter B. Cinco, accompanied by Police Staff Sergeant (PSSg) Ronald T. Baldos, and operating under the direct supervision of Police Major (PMAJ) Raymundo B. Bacera Jr., made their way to the reported location to assess the situation.

According to the homeowner, 64-year-old farmer Mario Masito Layuran, the disaster struck while he and his family were inside their residence. His infant grandchild, Jeboy Layuran, was peacefully resting in a hammock when a rubble of mud and rocks buried their home.

Neighbors and fellow residents immediately sprang into action, launching desperate rescue and retrieval efforts in the unstable terrain.

The tiny victim was quickly pulled from the debris and rushed to Kibalang Hospital in a race against time. However, despite the frantic efforts of the community and medical personnel, Jeboy Layuran was tragically declared dead on arrival.
