‘I am done’

  • FPRRD nixes VP Sara’s claim of 3 Dutertes running for senate seats

FORMER President Rodrigo Duterte immediately nipped his daughter’s pronouncement in the bud about the possibility of three members of the family gunning for a senate seat in the mid-term elections next year.

When asked about Vice President Sara Duterte’s recent remark, he said, “Naniwala ka diyan Kay Inday? Susmaryosep naman. I-jamming ka niyan ng husto, lalo na ‘pag balabag ‘yung tanong (Do you actually believe Inday? Oh my goodness. She’s just messing with you, especially if the question is absurd).”

Duterte further stated, “Hindi na ako babalik ng politika. Tapos na po ako. Laos na ako. Wala na akong panggastos, wala na lahat. Ang naiwan sa akin siguro, yabang (I will not return to politics. I am done. I am old. I have no more money to spend. All I have left is maybe my ego).”

He added, “Saan ka nakakita na nagsama ang tatay pati ang dalawang anak, magtakbo ng senador? Anong gagawin namin sa senate (Where have you seen a father and his two children run for senator together? What will we do in the senate)?”

Meanwhile, the former president advised his daughter against running for the presidency.

Kung ang anak kong vice president ang maging president, would you think that this country would be better than what we have now? It’s not a guarantee (If my daughter becomes president, would you think this country would be better than what we have now? It’s not a guarantee),” Duterte said during a press conference in Tacloban city during the national day of protest Maisug Prayer Rally on Sunday, June 30.

He continued, “They worry about Inday? Inday, ‘wag kang pumasok dyan sa presidency. [Kung] nakikinig si Inday, iwasan mo yang presidency. Ibigay mo sa mga ambisyoso (They worry about Inday? Inday, don’t enter the presidency. If Inday is listening, avoid the presidency. Leave it to the greedy ones).”

On June 19, Sara Duterte resigned as DepEd Secretary and National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) co-vice chairperson effective July 19, 2024.
