High-value drug target killed in buy-bust operation

A CITY-LEVEL drug target was killed in a buy-bust by the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) in Barangay Ilang, Bunawan District on Sept. 17.

The suspect, known as alias Boss and ranked as a top five city-level high-value individual, reportedly pulled out a .45 caliber handgun and fired at an officer during the operation. The officer returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.

Acting city director Col. Hansel Marantan said the DCPO remains committed to its campaign against illegal drugs. The ongoing effort is carried out in close coordination with other agencies to eliminate the drug trade within the city.

“This successful operation is a direct response to the community’s call for decisive action against illegal drugs,” Marantan said. “We are dedicated to protecting the people of Davao City, especially our vulnerable children, from the devastating impact of drug abuse.”

The operation was led by Police Station 4 – Sasa, under the supervision of acting station commander Maj. Marcille Manzano.

The DCPO thanked the community for its vital support in identifying the suspect and his accomplices. Alias Boss was reportedly the first drug suspect killed by the police after allegedly resisting arrest in a buy-bust operation since Marantan assumed office.

The DCPO personnel had implemented a slowdown in operations due to the bloody campaign against illegal drugs. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has previously stated that the administration’s anti-drug campaign will be ‘bloodless’.
