- NBI busts suspect in entrapment operation
THE NATIONAL Bureau of Investigation’s South Eastern Mindanao Regional Office (NBI SEMRO) apprehended a woman in a sting operation inside a shopping mall along J.P. Laurel Avenue on Friday, Nov. 22.
The NBI XI identified her as only an alias Guillermina in an entrapment operation inside a mall on Friday, Nov. 22.
According to the report, Guillermina was arrested at around 3:40 p.m. at Kuya J restaurant when she received the envelope containing P30,000 in marked money. She faces a charge of estafa/swindling under Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code.
The operation stemmed from complaints filed by three individuals who reported to NBI SEMRO that they had fallen victim to Guillermina’s scam. Reportedly, one of the victims already shelled out P600,000 while another was sweet-talked into giving P400,000.
According to the complainants, Guillermina claimed to have close connections with high-ranking officials in various government agencies, including the Department of Justice, the Supreme Court, and the NBI itself.
She would then allegedly approach unsuspecting victims and offer to expedite their transactions with these agencies in exchange for cash.
NBI-Semro considered Barrido a “high-profile scammer” and encouraged other victims to come forward and file a complaint.
The body-worn camera footage of the entrapment operation was released to the media during a press conference Monday morning, Nov. 25. The footage showed NBI agents confronting and arresting Guillermina after she received the marked money from an undercover operative posing as a victim.
The NBI warned the public to be wary of individuals offering to use their “connections” to facilitate government transactions for a fee.
