Groups welcome Librado’s bid for councilor

Bayan Muna Southern Mindanao, along with ilusang Mayo Uno-Southern Mindanao Region and Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Southern Mindanao Region, backed comebacking councilor Pamela Librado in the 2025 National and Local elections.

Rauf Sissay, Bayan Muna Southern Mindanao secretariat member told TIMES on Monday, that Librado’s bid will continue to advance the rights of workers and the marginalized sector.

Sissay said the group believes in the brand of politics of the Librado clan who have been forwarding pro-worker and pro-poor local initiatives.

They cited the legal aid for platform workers, support for labor-related causes, collaboration with trade unions and civil society groups, women’s rights advocacy, and the passage of Workers Protection Desk ordinance in 2021, among others.

The “Librado brand” started by their patriarch the late labor leader and former city councilor Erasto “Nonoy” Librado in the 1990s and continued by his wife former councilor Marlene, and daughters, Angela & Leah.

“We also view Pameng’s run as a testament to their commitment to forwarding positive change for Dabawenyo workers and marginalized communities,” he said.

Former lawmaker Pamela Librado registered her name as councilor in the city’s 1st district, under the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod (HTL) Party.

Librado filed her candidacy on Sunday, Oct. 6, the sixth day of filing of certificates of candidacy for the 2025 midterm elections, along with a lineup of the HTL party.

It can be noted that Librado has withdrawn her re-election bid in the 2022 elections after she was dropped from the lineup in 2021 due to her alleged involvement with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).

In her comeback, she aims to continue to push her advocacy to help the labor force which she said her support has never ceased despite not being in the government for two years.
