TRANSPORT service cooperatives galvanized support for the Public Transportation Modernization Program, whose implementation in Davao Region has been progressively slow.
“We are dedicated to supporting the government’s vision for a modern, well-organized, safe, and accessible public transportation system that benefits the riding public at large,” Jean Bangay of the Kapatagan Transport Cooperative said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw on March 24.

Bangay believed that the program directly benefits the commuters of Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental. She added that their decision to join the program as transport cooperatives and corporations was made willingly and voluntarily.
She also witnessed the positive financial impact of the initiative, providing significant incentives and livelihood to drivers, auxiliary workers, and other workers.
Gibert Porio of the North Davao Transport Coop Federation also supported a safe and accessible public transport system to benefit the public while acknowledging the regulation outline of the Department of Transportation and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

“We the North Davao Transport Cooperative Federation are grateful. Sana po makarating ito kay Sec. Dizon na papatuloy po niya ang pagsuporta ng public transportation for modernization program,” Porio said.
Last Aug 5, 2024, the Unified Transport Cooperatives and Corporations publicly opposed the Senate resolution to suspend the Public Transportation Modernization Program.
Meanwhile, Mandaya Van Transport Service Cooperative chairman Ralph Palma Gil said the Senate should look for a solution instead of suspending the program.
