Man accused of raping stepdaughter killed in shootout
A STEPFATHER who allegedly raped his stepdaughter was killed in a manhunt operation by the elements of San Pedro Police in Bucana, Barangay 76-A, in the early morning of Saturday, June 3.
Major Marvin Hugos, commander of San Pedro Police Station, said the suspect, an alias Dennis (real name redacted to protect the victim), was a tricycle driver.
Dennis, according to the police, was killed after he allegedly shot at the elements of the Women’s and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) who were about to arrest him. They fired back and killed the suspect.
According to Hugos, the WCPD responded to the distress call from the 34-year-old victim, alias Melody, and her 12-year-old younger sister.
Melody told the police that her stepfather assaulted her on Friday morning, June 2, while she was asleep at their house. He forcibly undressed her, including her undergarments, before successfully raping her.

After a short engagement, the suspect was rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center, but he was declared on arrival by the attending physician.
Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered cartridges from a caliber .9mm and caliber .38 revolver. They also seized the suspect’s revolver without a serial number, loaded with four rounds of live bullets.
Meanwhile, the victim was referred to Davao Medical Center for a medical examination.
The Police Regional Office XI sounded alarm on the rising sexual assault cases.
Based on the police records, there were 128 reported sexual assaults from January 1 to April 29, 2023. Of the total, 76 of these were statutory rape, 34 were rape, and 18 were incestuous rape.
The figure was a slight increase from the 172 reported last year.
For the victims’ profiles, 88 were between 11 and 17 years old; 19 were between 18 and 25; and seven were from 6 to 10 years old. They were mostly students.
Of the suspects, 48 were between 18 and 30, 27 were between 31 and 40, and 19 were between 41 and 50. Most rapes occurred in the house (81), abandoned structures (10), on the street (six), and in commercial establishments (six).
