Generally peaceful: Police record minor setbacks for Region XI, Davao City elections

THE SECURITY plan for Region XI and Davao City was successful, so the police only recorded isolated incidents of alleged vote buying and technical glitches after the polling precincts officially closed at 7 p.m. on May 12, 2025.

While isolated incidents of suspected election-related violence and reports of vote-buying were received, he said these did not significantly affect the overall conduct and integrity of the electoral process.

Brig Gen Leon Victor Rosete extends his gratitude to all personnel of the PRO XI, law enforcement and peacekeeping agencies, local government units, and the voters for their cooperation and support.

“This successful outcome is in line with the directive of the chief, Philippine National Police, Gen Rommel Francisco Marbil, to ensure clean, honest, and peaceful elections across the country,” Rosete said.

He said they are closely coordinating with the Commission on Elections to ensure the continued peace and order throughout the post-election period.

Meanwhile, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) chief Col Hansel Marantan said their security preparations bore fruit as they recorded zero election-related violence and hotspots in the 266 polling centers across 82 barangays.

“We also extend our deepest appreciation to the people of Davao City—the true Davaoeños, whose discipline, cooperation, and respect for the law greatly contributed to the success of this democratic exercise. Your adherence to safety protocols and vigilance against election irregularities demonstrated our collective resolve to uphold honest, orderly, and peaceful elections,” Marantan said in a statement.

He recognized the help of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Philippine Coast Guard, emergency response units, force multipliers, and various volunteer groups to preserve public order throughout the electoral process.

“Together, we have once again proven that through unity, professionalism, and shared responsibility, Davao City remains a model of credible and peaceful elections,” he said.
