‘Field hospital’ set up for city-wide earthquake drill

For the first time, the Davao City Risk Reduction Management Office (DCRRMO) will put up a “field hospital” for the city-wide shakeout drill on July 27 where the “injured” will be placed and treated.

Lyndon Ancajas, DCRRMO administrative officer, explained that this year’s drill will center on hospitals as they are among the most vital establishments during disasters.

“One of the key establishments that needs to be intact or running are the hospitals because we have injured people. They have to be there to cater to the needs of the patients,” he said in a statement.

The drill is the second city-wide activity of the local government which is aimed to instill awareness among local citizens on what to do during calamities like earthquake and tsunamis.

Last year’s shake-out drill was a success with the participation of 500,000 individuals from the public and private sectors.

For this year, Ancajas is optimistic that the drill will be participated in by people from the private and public sector, barangays, schools and government agencies; and private companies, such as malls and hotels.

The earthquake and tsunami drill will begin at 9 am.

City Administrator Zuleika T. Lopez calls for the active participation of Davaoeños in order to equip themselves with the basic knowledge on disaster preparedness.
