ON TOP of the rising prices of commodities, commuters are about to tighten their belts once more as the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board XI (LTFRB XI) approved the petition for a fare hike due to the global cost of crude oil.
Nonito Llanos, LTFRB XI regional director, confirmed to TIMES on Sunday that the authorized fare increase takes effect immediately on Monday, Sept. 28.
The adjustment brings immediate changes to commuting expenses for public utility vehicles in the region.
Under the agency’s updated advisory, the new rate structure sets the taxi flag-down rate at P65. In addition to the base drop fee, passengers will be charged P13.50 per kilometer alongside a P2 per minute travel time charge.
For jeepneys, the minimum fare will go up by P1 to P14 for the first four kilometres and an additional P2 for each succeeding kilometer.
The regulatory board reiterated that the mandated 20% discount remains strictly applicable for students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
