- Baste says police data show increase in theft and robbery cases in the city
MAYOR Sebastian Duterte has asked the Davao City Police Office to explain the alleged rising theft and robbery incidents since July this year.
During the “Basta Dabawenyo” podcast on Sunday, Sept. 22, he said, “They won’t listen to me. Besides, I don’t know whose administration this is. They won’t listen to me.”
“They put a city director [DCPO chief Col Hansel Marantan] there, which means it’s under their command, not mine.”
He said the recent City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) meeting raised the same concern about the increase in crimes, particularly robbery.
“The police also know that it has really increased. So what can I say? It could be because of the adjustments they made since they appointed a new city director and since Torre [PRO XI director Brig Gen Nicolas Torre III] arrived in July,” he further said.
He said the CPOC didn’t manufacture data since the records came from the DCPO itself.
“Ask them. Don’t ask me. Because they won’t listen to me. It’s better to ask them. It’s better to ask the police about that. Maybe they have a good explanation,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Davao City Police Office spokesperson Captain Hazel Tuazon said she has yet to request the data from the investigation section for theft, robbery and physical injuries.
Although she conceded the slight increase in theft incidents, she said the police solved most cases reported to them.
“Ang mga wala pa na solved naa tay case conferences nga ginahimo para matagaan ug kasulbaran (For unsolved cases, we initiated case conferences to find a solution),” she added.
