- Establishment, patrons given citation tickets for violating liquor ban
TWENTY-FOUR individuals were arrested after defying the liquor ban at a bar in Sobrecarey Street, Poblacion, around 1:50 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23.
According to the Sta. Ana Police Station, the bar patrons were issued citation tickets and subsequently released. The bar manager also received a penalty for serving alcohol past the deadline in violation of the Liquor Ban Ordinance in the city.
Vices Regulation Unit (VRU) personnel, led by Ramon Fernandez, said each individual will pay a fine of P3,000 for the infraction.
Under the Davao City Liquor Ordinance 004-13 series of 2013, the consumption and sale of liquor is prohibited from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. The last order for liquor for most bars is at midnight or 12:30 a.m.
Under the city ordinance, violators will be penalized P3,000 for the first offense; P5,000 or imprisonment (or both) for the second offense; and P5,000 and a one-year jail term for the third offense.
It can be remembered that Mayor Sebastian Duterte also warned bar owners to adhere to the guidelines or face stiff penalties.
Duterte said that establishments would pay the penalty for the first offense and may serve jail time for the second offense. Their business permits will also be revoked on the third offense.
TIMES messaged the Hearsay Bar on Messenger but has yet to receive a response as of this writing.
In April 2023, police raided two bars at Jacinto Street corner Padre Faura Street and Narra Street corner Fatima Street after receiving information they served alcohol after 1 a.m. The operation resulted in the arrest of 237 patrons and the temporary closure of the establishments.
