Expect slight increase of school supply prices: DTI

THE DEPARTMENT of Trade and Industry (DTI) XI said the public may expect a slight increase in school supply prices.

During Kapihan sa PIA on Aug. 14, Deolly Roque, DTI-XI Consumer Protection Division chief, said they will give a fair return on investments to manufacturers without compromising the consumer’s purchasing power.

“This SRP (suggested retail price) is being disseminated now from our parents and consumers, to know that our bookstores and department stores selling these school supplies should adhere to the SRP,” Roque said.

On July 25, the DTI Central Office distributed the revised SRP list to retailers and merchants for reference.

“Compared to previous years nga prices, medyo nitaas gyud (at present) because of the cost of production sa manufacturers,” Roque added.

Among the supplies listed to slightly increase include notebooks, writing pads, ball pens, pencils, crayons, erasers, and other essential needs.

Roque added that bookstores and other selling establishments were compliant with the said revisions so far.

The DTI-XI Consumer Protection Division seeks to continuously work on price monitoring to ensure the availability of supply at reasonable prices, mainly to protect consumers.
