A 66-YEAR-OLD woman died on the spot after being struck and run over by a dump truck along Daang Maharlika Highway in Barangay Tibungco on Monday afternoon, Aug. 17.
Police identified the victim as alias Cora, a married resident of Purok 7, Barangay Mudiang, Bunawan District.
Based on an initial report from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), the incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. in front of a store in Km. 18, Tibungco.
Investigators stated that a Shacman dump truck—registered to a resident of Cateel, Davao Oriental—was traveling north along the inner lane of the highway when it momentarily came to a halt due to stopped traffic ahead.
Alias Cora, who had just come from the Tibungco public market, was walking along the roadway alongside a neighbor. While the truck was stationary, the victim attempted to cross the road from east to west, with her neighbor pulling her along.
However, as the dump truck resumed moving, the pedestrian entered the driver’s blind spot.
Cora was bumped and pulled underneath the vehicle, where the truck’s front left tire ran her over.
The impact caused severe physical injuries that killed the victim instantly.
Responders from Trabmoc Rescue who arrived at the scene confirmed that Capisnon showed no signs of life.
Her body was subsequently brought to the Rivera Funeral Parlor in Licanan, Davao City.
Police authorities are conducting further investigation into the incident, which has been initially logged as Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide.
