EastMinCom Chief stresses discipline, and patriotism in visit to frontline brigades

IN A MOVE aimed at bolstering morale and reinforcing core values, Lieutenant General Luis Rex D. Bergante, commander of Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom), conducted a crucial unit visit to the headquarters of the 701st Infantry Brigade and the 1001st Infantry Brigade on Feb. 27.

The visit, characterized by a warm reception from the brigades’ Commanders, officers, and enlisted personnel, served as a platform for Bergante to directly address the troops and reiterate the fundamental principles that underpin their mission.

Central to his message was the emphasis on individual responsibility, discipline, and unwavering professionalism.

During a “Talk to Troops” session, LtGen. Bergante stressed that each soldier, while donning the uniform, is a direct representation of the Philippine Army and the nation itself.

“A great nation is built on the character, values, and dedication of its citizens,” LtGen. Bergante declared, his words resonating throughout the assembled ranks. “It is the people — united in love for their country — who become the foundation of national greatness.”

He expounded on the interconnectedness of patriotism, respect for authority, and disciplined conduct.

“Love for the country means putting the nation’s welfare above personal interests and working selflessly for the common good,” he stated, underscoring the importance of selfless service.

LtGen. Bergante further highlighted the significance of respect for authority in maintaining order and ensuring adherence to the rule of law.

He stressed that discipline, both visible and unseen, cultivates responsible individuals who contribute to society with integrity.

Acknowledging the critical role of the military in safeguarding peace and freedom, he emphasized the importance of motivated and guided soldiers.

“Equally important are the men and women in uniform — motivated and guided soldiers who stand as protectors of peace and freedom,” he said. “Together, these virtues — love, respect, discipline, and guidance — become the pillars upon which a truly great nation stands and flourishes.”

The visit served as a powerful demonstration of EastMinCom’s unwavering support for the missions and initiatives of the 701st and 1001st Infantry Brigades, both of which operate in regions facing complex security challenges.

The presence of the EastMinCom Commander and his direct engagement with the troops reinforced the shared commitment to upholding peace, security, and lasting stability across Eastern Mindanao.

The visit comes at a time when the Philippine military continues to grapple with internal and external security threats, making the reinforcement of core values and the fostering of a strong sense of purpose more crucial than ever.

LtGen. Bergante’s message serves as a reminder of the vital role each soldier plays in building a secure and prosperous future for the nation.
