THE EASTERN Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) recently reinforced its commitment to unity and cohesion with a vibrant team-building event at the scenic Isla Reta Resort in Talicud Island, Island Garden City of Samal, held on May 17.
The day-long activity, designed to foster camaraderie and a shared sense of purpose, brought together Team EastMinCom for a series of engaging exercises.
The event commenced with an energetic group chant, torch lighting, and banner raising, officially marking the opening of the EMC Sportsfest with an Oath of Sportsmanship.
Participants were divided into four teams—Brown, Blue, Green, and Gray—to encourage collaboration through a variety of challenges, from strength-based contests to lively beach volleyball matches.
A commander’s vision: Peace as a foundation for progress
During the opening ceremony, Lt. Gen. Luis Rex D. Bergante PA, Commander of EastMinCom, emphasized the critical link between peace and development. “Being here today reminded me of the deep connection between peace and development—something we often take for granted,” Lt. Gen. Bergante stated.
He highlighted the stark contrast between regions where freedom and activities are enjoyed, and those hindered by security concerns.
Lt. Gen. Bergante expressed his personal desire to promote tourism in Eastern Mindanao, acknowledging the existing travel advisories that pose obstacles.
However, he underscored the significant progress made in regional security, citing the possibility of 24-hour travel in most parts of Mindanao as a strong indicator of improvement.
“This highlights how crucial our role is in nation-building. Our efforts directly contribute to the peace, safety, and progress of our communities,” he added, urging the teams to strengthen their bonds and work towards shared goals.
Reconnecting and recharging
Beyond the competitive games, team members found moments to relax and reconnect.
The picturesque island setting provided a welcome escape from daily routines, allowing individuals to enjoy swimming, casual conversations, and quiet reflection by the sea.
This time for rejuvenation, recharged both body and spirit, reinforcing the value of collective effort and the power of working as one.
The team-building activity at Isla Reta was more than just a break; it was a testament to EastMinCom’s spirit of unity and resilience.
As the sun set, it was clear that a stronger, more connected team stands ready to tackle future challenges, together.
