IT COULD potentially be a Duterte-Duterte tandem for mayor and vice mayor following the pronouncement of former President Rodrigo Duterte that he will run for City Hall next year.
He also hinted that Mayor Sebastian Duterte may slide down to vice mayor.
“Hindi tayo nagkakaintindihan. akala ko ba retired na ako (We might have some misunderstandings, I thought I’m retired already)? Did I not announce it several months ago? But you’re thinking that I’m running. You are speculating that I am running. Is it? Sige tatakbo nalang ako eh gusto ninyo eh (Then I will run because you seem to want it).”
During a press conference with the media on Saturday evening, Duterte said” I’m open to suggestions through the media about what you think I should be gunning for. Does the media’s clamor reflect the community that I will be running for? Gusto ng tao (people want it)? Sige mag mayor tayo [Okay, I [will be running for] mayor.”
He said that Mayor Sebastian Duterte “should be the vice mayor.”
“Kasi ako matanda na ako ngayon (Because I’m already old now),” he added.
He also shot down the suggestion that he would file his candidacy for senator considering his age, which would not be realistic to run a national campaign.
“Do you want me to die? Ma co-collapse lang ako nyan (I will just collapse),” he said.
Previously, Vice President Sara Duterte announced that there would be Duterte who would run for senator. When asked for comment, Duterte said, ” Not me, hindi ko na kaya.”
“Truth to tell, we have yet to sit down at this very late filing already, of what they would like things to happen in our political life,” he said.
