Duterte at 80

  • Road closures set for FPRRD’s birthday celebration

SEVERAL streets will be temporarily closed to prepare for the 80th birthday celebration of former President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday. March 28.

The City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) posted the traffic plan and alternative routes on its Facebook page on Tuesday, March 25.

The partial road closure, which starts on Wednesday, March 26, 1 a.m. onwards, will affect the streets, including Roxas Boulevard, C.M.Recto Ave. (Claveria Street), Magsaysay Avenue, and J.P Laurel Avenue corner Roxas Boulevard.

The closures would give way to the stage to be set up for the main event on March 28.

“During this period, traffic flow may be affected, and we kindly advise motorists to take alternate routes where possible. Signages and traffic personnel will be deployed to assist in ensuring smooth movement,” CTTMO said in a post.

Also on Tuesday, March 25, the 20th City Council approved an ordinance that authorizes the CTTMO to close the roads for the program proper on March 28, which starts from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod party will spearhead the Duterte-themed “Rody at 80: Global Celebration of His Life and Legacy.”

The former president is currently detained at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, for his alleged crimes against humanity. He will celebrate his birthday in detention. Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte said that his partner, Honeylet Avanceña, and daughter Kitty Duterte are scheduled to visit him on his birthday.

The vice president is presently in The Hague to complete the legal team that will defend Duterte from the charges leveled against him.
