The Brokenshire Medical Center (BMC) in collaboration with the Department of Health-Davao Center for Health and Development (DOH-DCHD) XI and Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) signed an agreement to establish the Medical Assistance for Indigent Patients (MAIP) Program on September 20 at the Brokenshire Medical Center, Davao City.
The ceremonial tripartite MAIPP MOA signing aims to provide medical assistance for the MAIPP beneficiaries, which refer to indigent or financially incapacitated patients.
Ronald Manuel Santos, BMC chief executive officer said the MAIPP partnership represents a collective determination in the lives of those who require medical support.
“This MOA is not just a document; it is a symbol of unity, compassion, and hope. It represents our unwavering dedication to providing essential healthcare services and assistance to indigent patients,” Santos said.
As assessed and certified by a Medical Social Worker, MAIPP beneficiaries are those patients with catastrophic illness or any illness considered as life-threatening, requires prolonged hospitalization, and has extremely expensive therapies.
The service covers drugs and medicines included in the Philippine National Drug Formulary, laboratory, imaging, and radiological diagnostic procedures, blood-related screening or products, all clinically indicated medical, surgical, high-risk cases of obstetrics-gynecological and other relevant procedures, prescribed post-hospitalization, and rehabilitation services.
This also covers all hospital bills, including professional fees, provided that the expenses for the professional fees shall not exceed 50-percent of the approved amount of medical assistance.
Ricardo Audan, SPMC medical center chief represented by Fitzgerald Arancel, SPMC chief of Medical Professional Services, urges medical doctors to completely accept indigent patients.
“The money that comes in from the MAIPP funds might not quite be the one you are expecting to save your patients. But again, this is an indulgence, we are not here just to serve them, but having to serve all your patients,” Arancel said.
Also participating in the signing ceremony were James Binoy, BMC chief finance officer, Dr. Michael Jamiana, BMC Medical Director, Dr. Annabelle Yumang – DOH-DCHD regional director, and Jade Paul Jamero – DOH-DCHD accountant.
