THE DEPARTMENT of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) confirmed that three barangay officials in Davao Region were suspended this year due to malpractice and abuse of authority.
According to DILG XI regional director Abdullah V. Matalam, the three violated RA 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards covering elected officers and public employees.
Matalam also clarified that the DILG doesn’t hold the authority to decide and pronounce judgment. He said they also need a complainant to hold the public official accountable.
Instead, the DILG only enforces the order released by the Office of the Ombudsman and the Sandiganbayan.
“Implementation lang po kami, bale nagtratrabaho lang po kami what is ever the order of Ombudsman and Sandiganbayan” he said.
Matalam said they continuously monitor elected officials but they still need the help of the citizens to report their grievances.
